• NHTSA recall counts, weighted by severity
• NHTSA complaint counts, weighted by crashes, injuries, and deaths reported
• EPA fuel-economy data where available
• A brand-tier baseline used to steady scores when a specific model-year has little NHTSA history

Higher scores indicate better predicted quality and reliability. The quality index is refreshed as NHTSA publishes new recall and complaint data.
